# External Panels

> Route respondents from Prolific, Cint / Lucid, CloudResearch, Terac, or any panel provider into a BYOP study through one entry URL.

Already buy respondents from a panel provider? Connect that provider to a BYOP study from **Invite Participants** → **Bring Your Own Panel**. You paste one entry URL into the provider. Respondents arrive with their provider ID, take the interview, and are sent back to the provider with their outcome: complete, screened out, or quota full.

You recruit and pay the provider directly; we run the interviews. To have us recruit and bill for participants instead, use [our research panel](/recruiting/research-panel.md).

***

## Setting it up

**1. Open the panel configuration**

On the study dashboard, click **Invite Participants** → **Bring Your Own Panel**. Once a configuration is saved, the same item reads **View/Edit Panel Configuration**.

**2. Choose your provider**

Pick **Prolific**, **Cint / Lucid**, **CloudResearch**, **Terac**, or **Custom provider**. Choosing a named provider fills in its parameter names and placeholders for you.

**3. Check the ID mapping**

Confirm the **Respondent ID parameter** and its **Provider placeholder**, plus the optional session and study ID pairs. See [ID parameters](#id-parameters).

**4. Add your redirect URLs**

Paste the return URLs from your provider. **Complete** and **Screen-out** are required. See [Redirect URLs](#redirect-urls).

**5. Save and copy the entry URL**

Click **Save configuration**, then click **Copy provider entry URL** and add it to your study on the provider's side.

> [!WARNING]
>
> Anyone with the entry URL can enter the study. Share it only with your provider.

## ID parameters

The entry URL carries the provider's identifiers in query parameters, so each interview can be matched back to the respondent.

| Field | What it's for |
| - | - |
| **Respondent ID parameter** / **Provider placeholder** | Required. The parameter name, and the macro your provider swaps for the respondent's ID |
| **Session ID parameter** / **Session placeholder** | Optional. A per-attempt ID, for providers that issue one |
| **Study ID parameter** / **Study placeholder** | Optional. The provider's own ID for the study |

The presets fill these with each provider's conventions:

| Provider | Respondent ID | Session ID | Study ID |
| - | - | - | - |
| **Prolific** | `PROLIFIC_PID` | `SESSION_ID` | `STUDY_ID` |
| **Cint / Lucid** | `respondent_id` (`[%RID%]`) | `session_id` (`[%MID%]`) | — |
| **CloudResearch** | `participantId` | `assignmentId` | `projectId` |
| **Terac** | `teracSubmissionId` | — | `taskId` |
| **Custom provider** | `respondent_id` (`{{RESPONDENT_ID}}`) | — | — |

Check them against your provider's documentation before saving; you can edit any field.

## Redirect URLs

When a respondent finishes, they're sent back to the provider at the URL for their outcome.

| Redirect | When it's used | Required? |
| - | - | - |
| **Complete redirect URL** | The respondent finished the interview | Yes |
| **Screen-out redirect URL** | Your screener questions disqualified them | Yes |
| **Quota-full redirect URL** | The study had already reached its target | Optional |
| **Technical-failure redirect URL** | The session couldn't continue for a technical reason | Optional |

Redirect URLs can include `{{respondent_id}}`, `{{session_id}}`, `{{external_study_id}}`, `{{call_id}}`, and `{{outcome}}`, which are filled in for each respondent.

> [!TIP]
>
> Choosing **Terac** pre-fills the complete and screen-out redirects with the User Intuition thank-you page. Replace them if your Terac task expects its own return URLs.

## While it's fielding

The provider appears as its own row at the top of the Invites table, with a status of **Fielding**, **Paused**, or **Complete** and the time of the latest interview. Click **View/Edit information** on that row to reopen the configuration.

You can [pause and resume](/managing-your-study/study-actions.md#pause-and-resume) the study as usual. Respondents who arrive while it's paused are asked to try again later, and can re-enter once you resume.

A study connects to one provider at a time. Interviews use credits as usual. See [Billing and credits](/resources/billing-and-credits.md).
