# Study Actions

The **Actions** menu in the top right of your study dashboard holds everything you can do to a study after it's live.

Most of it works the same either way. A few things depend on whether you're running a **panel** study or bringing in your **own participants** — including what you get charged for.

| Action | Panel studies | Your own participants |
| -------------------- | :-----------: | :-------------------: |
| View Study           |       ✓       |           ✓           |
| Edit Study           |       ✓       |           ✓           |
| Duplicate Study      |       ✓       |           ✓           |
| Pause / Resume Study |       ✓       |           ✓           |
| Delete Study         |       ✓       |           ✓           |
| Enable Rewards       |       —       |           ✓           |

## Available on every study

### View Study

Opens the complete configuration — research plan, moderator voice, format, language, and screener questions — read-only.

Useful for checking what you actually asked before you interpret a result, and for sharing the design with a colleague who wasn't involved in setting it up.

### Edit Study

Reopens the setup flow so you can change the research plan, moderator, format, or screeners.

<Warning>
  **Think carefully about editing a study that's already collecting.** Changing questions or flow partway through means early and late responses aren't directly comparable, which weakens the analysis you're collecting the data for.
</Warning>

Safe at any time:

* Renaming the study
* Fixing a typo that doesn't change a question's meaning

Risky once responses are in:

* Adding, removing, or rewording questions
* Changing the interview format
* Changing the moderator voice
* Changing screener criteria

If you need substantial changes after collecting responses, **duplicate the study and edit the copy** instead. That way the first set of responses stays intact and comparable.

### Duplicate Study

Copies the entire configuration into a new study — research plan, moderator settings, screeners — without any of the responses.

Use it to run the same study with a different audience, to re-run it next quarter for comparison, or to make substantial changes without contaminating data you've already collected.

### Pause and Resume

**Pause Study** stops the study taking new responses. While paused:

* Anyone following your study link sees **"This study is no longer active"** rather than starting an interview
* The **Invite Participants** menu is disabled, and invites can't be resent
* Test conversations still work, so you can keep checking the study yourself
* Everything already collected stays exactly where it is

**Resume Study** starts it again and reopens the same links — you don't need to redistribute anything.

A study that has reached its target is **Complete**, and complete studies can't be paused — there's nothing left to stop.

### Delete Study

Permanently removes the study and everything attached to it: all interviews, transcripts, recordings, reports, and participant records.

<Warning>
  **Deletion cannot be undone.** Export anything you need first — transcripts, reports, or a generated presentation.
</Warning>

Before deleting, consider whether you'd rather **pause** it (if you might collect more later), **sync it to the Intelligence Hub** (if you want the findings to outlive the study), or just **export the report** (if you only need the conclusions).

Deleting is the right call for genuine test studies, duplicates created by mistake, and studies that never launched.

## Studies where you bring your own participants

### Enable Rewards

Pay your participants for completing an interview. This option only appears on bring-your-own studies — on panel studies, User Intuition handles incentives.

<Steps>
  <Step title="Open Enable Rewards">
    From the **Actions** menu. Once set, the menu item shows the current amount.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Set the amount">
    Enter a reward per participant, between **\$5 and \$400**. It's debited from your wallet when a reward is actually sent.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Choose how rewards go out">
    Tick **Automatically send rewards after quality interviews** to have them sent for you, or leave it unticked to send each one by hand from the **Calls** tab.
  </Step>
</Steps>

Rewards are only offered for interviews rated **Excellent** or **Good**, and never for test invites.

<Note>
  You need a [payment method on file](/resources/billing-and-credits#payment-methods) to send rewards. Without one, the reward button in the Calls tab is replaced by "No Card on File."
</Note>

### What you're charged for

On bring-your-own studies you're charged for interviews rated **Excellent**, **Good**, or **Fair**. Only **Poor** is free.

Fair counts here because you control who gets the link. When a participant turns out to be a poor fit or gives thin answers, that's a recruiting outcome rather than something we selected for you — the interview still ran, and the moderator still did the work.

## Panel studies

### No reward setup

Panel studies don't show **Enable Rewards**. Participant incentives are set and paid by User Intuition as part of the per-participant cost, so there's nothing for you to configure.

### What you're charged for

On panel studies you're charged only for interviews rated **Excellent** or **Good**. **Fair and Poor are free.**

The bar is higher here because we chose the participants. If someone we recruited only produces a Fair conversation, that's on our sourcing, not your study — so you don't pay for it.

### Stopping a fielding panel

A study can field only one panel at a time. Setting up a new one while another is fielding prompts you to stop the existing panel first.

Pausing the study also halts a fielding panel; resuming restarts it.

## What you're charged for, side by side

| Quality rating | Panel studies | Your own participants |
| -------------- | :-----------: | :-------------------: |
| **Excellent**  |    Charged    |        Charged        |
| **Good**       |    Charged    |        Charged        |
| **Fair**       |      Free     |        Charged        |
| **Poor**       |      Free     |          Free         |

On panel studies the **\$30 per-participant** cost follows the same rule — you're billed only on Excellent and Good completes. See [Billing and credits](/resources/billing-and-credits).

## Frequently Asked Questions

<AccordionGroup>
  <Accordion title="Can I edit a study that's actively fielding?">
    Yes, but be deliberate about it. Changes affect only interviews that happen afterwards, so your dataset ends up mixed.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="Does duplicating a study copy its responses?">
    No. You get the configuration; the new study starts empty.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="Does pausing a study lose my responses?">
    No. Everything collected stays. Pausing only stops new interviews starting.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="Why am I charged for Fair interviews on my own participants but not on panel?">
    Because of who chose the participant. On panel studies we did the recruiting, so a Fair conversation is our sourcing problem. On your own studies you control who receives the link, and the interview still ran either way.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="Can I recover a deleted study?">
    No. Deletion is permanent.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="Who can perform these actions?">
    Anyone with permission to manage the study. **View Study** is available to everyone with access.
